Pharmaceutical packaging organizationsMoisture is the adversary throughout the work on Halo. Seven entries build a vapor barrier for a solid dose, two rebuild the blister as a recyclable mono-material, and six put a barrier onto paper or fiber. What they replace, almost every time, is aluminum or a multilayer laminate. On Halo it spans four groups, including moisture barrier for a solid dose, barrier coatings on paper and fiber, and encapsulating the active.
Stage of development. Work on pharmaceutical packaging on Halo comes mostly from companies. 64% of the solutions are in market. Co-development and licensing are the usual partnering routes, and about 50% of the solutions that state terms offer pilot engagements.
Moisture, and almost nothing else. Seven entries build a vapor barrier for a solid dose, and two of them coat the tablet itself: atomic layer deposition laying alumina on an effervescent, and an edible polysaccharide that dissolves on contact with water. The others work on the film, with nanoclay in PLA, reactive oxides in a multilayer, cellulose acetate in HDPE. Water is the failure mode the whole page is written against.
The blister is the thing to unmake. Two entries rebuild blister packaging as a single material, one using atomic layer deposition to make paper hold the barrier, the other a saloplastic that comes apart when saltwater triggers it. Both name compatibility with existing production lines. Aluminum-backed blisters work perfectly and recycle not at all, which is the whole reason these exist.
Half of it is the product, not the package. Six entries encapsulate the active itself: alginate hydrogels, a bacterial polysaccharide, degradable hydrogel microparticles, pH-sensitive capsules that swell before they open, programmable triggers made to order. At this scale the distinction between packaging and formulation stops holding, and the same technologies appear on both sides of it.
Pharmaceutical packaging covers keeping a drug dry, stable and traceable until it is taken. It spans moisture barriers built for a solid dose, recyclable blister structures, barrier coatings that let paper and fiber hold a pharmaceutical claim, the encapsulation that protects an active inside the product, and the traceability, closures and cold chain around the pack. Pharmaceutical manufacturers and their packaging suppliers are the buyers.
