I address the challenges of soil depletion associated with highly weathered acidic soils in East Africa and saline/alkaline soils in hyperarid conditions of Morocco. I have devised alternative measures to revitalize these soil using cost effective interventions of maize/grain- legume diversity and biointensification that has increased yields by 2 - 3 times in 2 years. At UM6P, I have advanced the coinnovation and active inclusion of farmers in the redesign, evaluation and systematic tranformation of their cropping systems to soil regenerating typologies. Deploying satelite remote sensing and machine learning models, we find precise (R2 >85%) simulation of accruing soil health and increasing yields on an initial trial scale of 48 ha. We are transforming this information to a web tool.
