The intervention we have has innovative elements that help farmers use what they have including grain and legume varieties, machinery etc to intensify croppings systems that increase the turnover of soil carbon, nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. Thereby, with remote sensing assisted soil diagnosis, we can help farmers apply a budgeted and field precise fertiliser recommendations. The immedeate effects are the mix of grain/ legume crops with preliminary priming of organic and mineral fertilisers can enrich soil nutrients in minimum of two years to meet recommnded thresholds (eg 2% organic carbon). But our target is to boost microbial interventions of making P available and retaining N and K in the adverse soils. Based on need, we also include conservation tillage in the mix. Based on our experience, the inetervention of forage legumes increased P solubilisation and N mineralisation so that the next fertiliser requirement is leveraged. Using remote sensing, we capture the accruing benefits with <quarter acre resolution. Fertiliser needs are varied based on critical thresholds and fertility of each plot. This process will be supported by machine learning models inetrgarted into a wetool with the interphase of farmers with service providers and iterative diagnosis that captures dynamic agroecological conditions and evolving soil health. To encourage coinnovation, the process we adopt include a prelimary analysis and discussion of existing cropping systems, resource endowment and other predisipositions to adopting our proposed interventions. Unlike the tradition of small experimental plots we establish reference randomized comlete block experiments with different combinations described above and simplified design replicating the best mix of tillage and cropping systems etc on actual farmers fields. The fields represent coinovation trials identified cross multiple sites, in which we diagonize soil health indicators and keep redesigning cropping systems to include well adapted varieties and precisely estimated fertiliser needs each season. The coinnovation trials are managed carefully by the farmer and we advise them frequently using results of the refinement trials. Therefore the farm production is not interupted in any way, but the farmers witnes the evolving soils and increasing productivity with reasonable flexibility in choice of inputs and cropping sequences.

About University Mohammed VI Polytechnic

Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) is a Moroccan research university headquartered in Benguerir, focused on applied, industry-facing science and engineering with a pan-African mission. The main campus integrates laboratories with testbeds, maker spaces, and demonstration sites, enabling companies to prototype and validate solutions in operational environments. Close alignment with OCP Group provides access to industrial facilities, data, and talent pipelines, while an on-campus innovation district supports co-location of startups and corporate R&D. Research is supported by Moroccan national programs and competitive international funding. A dedicated technology transfer office and venture mechanisms streamline IP protection, licensing, and new venture creation.
