I have demonstrated expertise in the development of multi-domain engineered physical systems across numerous applications and industries. I am primarily known for discovering non-obvious solutions to challenging engineering system design problems through the discovery, characterization, and leveraging of complex system interactions. I pioneered the area of Control Co-Design (CCD), an integrated approach to the design of actively controlled engineering systems that has led to more than $150M in US DOE investment. My CCD studies of intelligent structures led to the discovery of MSAC, a fundamentally new spacecraft attitude control system with the potential to replace reaction wheel based systems. MSAC has now been flight-proven by my spinoff company, Samara Aerospace.
