Works on analogical and qualitative reasoning, NLU, sketch understanding, and cognitive architectures. Has fielded systems for AI in education that have been used by many students. Emphasizes human-like learning, incremental, data-efficient and producing inspectable models. Current work includes the Companion cognitive architecture, high-level vision for scene understanding, hybrid NLU for learning systems, and normative reasoning.
