As part of the partnership between Bayer's Crop Science Division and NIAB, we have created this pre-competitive challenge grant program to support the early exploration of exciting science project in areas where there is mutual interest to both parties.  

 

 

This is an exclusive opportunity for NIAB scientists to receive funding for cutting edge ideas and connect with the Bayer team for their execution.

What we're looking for

We are looking to fund exciting and novel projects in areas of mutual interest between NIAB and Bayer.

Projects will be assessed based on:

  1. Scientific merit
  2. Novelty of the concept
  3. Technical readiness
  4. Commercial potential
  5. Quality of the application
Solutions of interest include:
  • Novel crop protection approaches for biotic and abiotic stresses
  • Regenerative agriculture systems and soil health
  • Manipulating environment to maximise genetic potential
  • Crop breeding, modeling, and data science
  • Biotech and genome editing tools and products
  • Plant trait gene discovery
  • Phenotyping technology
Acceptable technology readiness levels (TRL):
Levels 1-6

Gift/award
Successful projects will receive pre-competitive funding to support their experimental plan. Grants are anticipated to be in the range of £10,000 to £15,000. Recipients can use the funding for research, personnel, equipment and other purchases.
Expertise
Each successful submission will be partnered with a Bayer scientist who will provide guidance and feedback on the project.
Tools and Technologies
Access to chemical libraries, DNA sequences and screening technologies will be provided on a case by case basis.
