Cargill produces soybean oil wet gums in the United States that feature low Total Fatty Acid (TFA) levels. Traditionally, the value of these wet gums has been linked to their TFA content recovered through acidulation and subsequently utilized in feed applications. However, with the reduced TFA levels, this traditional outlet has become less viable.
In addition to the lower TFA content, these gums exhibit an 80–90% reduction in phospholipid levels compared to typical gums, along with significantly higher concentrations of phosphate esters and glycerophosphoryl lecithin. A detailed chemical characterization is provided in below.
Annual production volumes range from approximately 7,000 to 14,000 metric tons. Cargill is exploring new opportunities to create value from these wet gums and welcomes collaboration to identify alternative applications, markets and technologies for this coproduct stream.

We are looking for opportunities to enhance the value of soybean oil wet gums through market diversification and process innovation using existing or advanced technologies. Relevant markets and applications include, but are not limited to, those listed below.
