Functional graphenic materials (FGMs) are innovative carriers designed for the controlled release of hydrophobic pesticides. Comprising graphene oxide and activated charcoal, these materials provide a cost-effective and biodegradable alternative to traditional polymer micro-capsules. By utilizing the hydrophobic carbon backbone of FGMs and manipulating their hydrophilic surface chemistry, precise control over water dispersibility and pesticide release profiles is achieved. This technology offers significant potential for sustainable agricultural practices by ensuring efficient pesticide delivery and minimizing environmental impact.

This technology is currently at TRL 4, indicating that it has been validated in the laboratory setting and is ready for further development and testing in more complex environments.
