Biogenic mesoporous silica nanoparticles (78% porosity) loaded with bactericidal and fungicidal metals (Cu, Ag) for use as plant protection nanofluid. Validated in rice and corn with over 50% improvement in plant health and yield. Scalable synthesis from agricultural waste residues.

Overview

This solution offers biogenic mesoporous silica nanoparticles designed as a delivery platform for crop protection. The nanoparticles feature 78% porosity and are loaded with bactericidal and fungicidal elements such as copper (Cu) and silver (Ag). Produced from plant waste residues through a clean synthesis route, the composites can be dispersed into a high-wettability nanofluid suitable for foliar application. Field trials in rice and corn demonstrated over 50% improvement in plant health and production.

Technical specifications
  • Mesoporous silica matrix: 78% porosity provides high loading capacity for active metals and nutrients
  • Metal loading: Cu and Ag incorporated via ion impregnation followed by reduction with CO generated during combustion
  • Sustainable sourcing: Silica extracted from plant waste residues using a clean methodology
  • Scalable production: Synthesis methodology supports kilogram-scale production
  • High-wettability nanofluid: Enables fast penetration into plant tissue when applied foliar
  • Dual functionality: Combines bactericidal and fungicidal protection with potential nutrient delivery
  • Target crops: Suitable for small plants including peppers, eggplants, rice, and corn
Technology readiness level

The technology has been validated in small rice and corn plantations, demonstrating over 50% improvement in plant health and production. The synthesis methodology has been proven at laboratory scale with demonstrated capacity for kilogram-scale production. Future validation steps include synthesis and characterization of Cu- and Ag-loaded composites, dispersion optimization in plant-compatible fluids, and antifungal and bactericidal efficacy testing in additional small plantations such as peppers and eggplants.
