The approach uses specialized testing and characterization tools, including a Raman spectrometer and a battery testing system, to advance battery innovation. The focus is on developing custom batteries tailored to specific industrial requirements, targeting high energy density, enhanced safety, and extended cycle life. The program connects early-stage research activities with prototype development and validation.

  • Facilities: Electrochemistry and Battery Production Lab equipped with advanced testing systems such as the Battery Cycler and Vionic system.
  • Process: Define battery specifications through design activities, then fabricate prototypes and perform rigorous testing of energy density, safety, and cycle life.
  • Equipment: Use coin and pouch cell equipment for initial prototypes, followed by iterative redesigns based on performance data.
  • Testing: Comprehensive testing including charge/discharge cycles, impedance, capacity, and thermal stability using Raman spectroscopy.
Technology readiness level

Currently at Technology Readiness Level 4, the work validates prototype battery cells in a lab environment. Iterative design improvements are driven by rigorous testing results, with plans to transfer an optimized production process for further scale-up.
