Advanced platform for identifying and profiling estrogen receptor ligands, assessing potency, efficacy, and endocrine disrupting effects, with applications in drug development and toxicology.

Overview

The estrogen receptor screening platform is an advanced solution designed to efficiently identify and characterize estrogen receptor (ER) ligands. The platform not only evaluates ligand potency and efficacy but also assesses the regulation of native genes and potential endocrine disrupting effects. This technology is pivotal for drug development and toxicological assessments, particularly in contexts like breast cancer growth and fibroblast toxicity.

Technical specifications
  • Ligand profiling: Utilizes luciferase reporters to screen compounds for ER and other nuclear receptor activities.
  • Gene regulation: Capable of evaluating effects on native genes, with potential custom assays in skin fibroblasts to measure collagen gene expression.
  • Endocrine disruption analysis: Profiles compounds for effects on breast cancer growth and toxicity in various cell lines.
  • Customizable assays: Offers development of additional assays, such as studies on primary fibroblasts or in vivo mouse studies, depending on sponsor needs.
Technology readiness level

This platform has reached a Technology Readiness Level (TRL) of 6, indicating that it has been tested in relevant environments and is nearing deployment for pilot studies or full-scale implementation.

About Scripps Research Institute

Scripps Research is a private, nonprofit biomedical research institute in La Jolla, California, coupling fundamental discovery with translation. Industry partners can access an integrated in‑house drug discovery division that spans screening, medicinal chemistry, preclinical models, and development paths to the clinic. A co‑located translational institute advances clinical and digital‑health studies, creating efficient routes to validation in real‑world and clinical settings. Research is supported by competitive federal funding, including sustained NIH investment. A dedicated Office of Technology Development manages IP, licensing, startup formation, and strategic alliances to speed commercialization.
