Oncology and cancer therapeutics expertsOncology on Halo is weighted toward getting a payload to the tumor: nucleic acid therapies with their own carriers, immunotherapy designed to stay where it is injected, and a notable concentration of pancreatic cancer programs. On Halo it spans six groups, including pancreatic cancer, nucleic acid therapy and carriers, and immunotherapy inside the tumor.
Stage of development. Work on oncology & cancer therapeutics on Halo is split between university programs and companies. 87% are past proof of concept (TRL 4 or higher). Co-development and licensing are the usual partnering routes, and about 26% of the solutions that state terms offer pilot engagements.
Pancreatic cancer as its own cluster. Three separate programs target pancreatic disease: Ref-1/APE1 inhibition against cancer cell metabolism, Trienomycin A derivatives forcing protective autophagy, and a microfluidic spheroid system built to reproduce that specific microenvironment. One of the hardest indications has pulled its own toolset onto the page.
Carriers designed for one organ. The nucleic acid work is inseparable from its delivery. Lipo-polymeric particles go to lung, DOTAP lipid nanoparticles carry p53 mRNA into breast, and a lipid-polymer hybrid is built to cross the blood-brain barrier. The therapy and the carrier are developed as one object.
Immunotherapy that stays put. Several teams are solving for locality and not potency. A CpG formulation is engineered to be retained in the tissue it enters, a plant virus is given intratumorally, and one delivery platform copies T cell trafficking to reach the lymph node. Systemic immune activation is the thing being designed away from.
Oncology covers the drugs, cell therapies and delivery systems aimed at solid and blood cancers. It spans targeted small molecules, nucleic acid therapies with the carriers that get them to a tumor, immunotherapy designed to act locally, and the biomarkers that predict which patient will respond. Pharmaceutical developers and academic cancer centers do the work.
