GaSb-based NIR photodetectors offer superior performance and cost-effectiveness for imaging and autonomous vehicles. Utilizing MBE growth on lattice-matched substrates, these photodetectors provide enhanced crystalline quality and reduced fabrication costs.
GaSb-based near-infrared (NIR) photodetectors present an innovative solution for imaging and autonomous automobile applications. By leveraging the unique properties of GaSb, which has a direct bandgap ideal for the NIR spectrum, these photodetectors offer efficient electron-hole pair generation upon NIR light absorption, ensuring high-performance detection capabilities. The use of molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) to grow GaSb layers on lattice-matched substrates further enhances the crystalline quality, reducing defects and improving overall device efficiency. This approach not only improves performance but also reduces fabrication costs compared to traditional InGaAs-based photodetectors.
The development of GaSb-based NIR photodetectors is currently at Technology Readiness Level 4. The project has completed initial phases of material preparation and is advancing through device fabrication and optimization stages. Ongoing efforts include passivation and performance characterization to ensure reliability and efficiency for commercial applications.
