Introducing an advanced graphene barristor sensor with modulated Schottky barrier for highly sensitive, low-concentration Hexanal detection, offering significant improvements over traditional FETs and PCR-based methods.

Overview

The graphene barristor sensor represents a cutting-edge innovation for point-of-care diagnostics, specifically designed for the detection of Hexanal at extremely low concentrations. Utilizing a Schottky barrier formed between graphene and silicon, this sensor offers an exponentially modulated current response, significantly enhancing sensitivity compared to traditional transistor-based sensors. This technology promises to surpass existing rapid testing methods like lateral flow and PCR by providing rapid, robust, and highly sensitive measurements.

Technical specifications
  • Graphene barristor technology: Exploits the Schottky barrier effect between a monolayer graphene and a semiconductor, offering high on/off current ratio modulation.
  • Ultra-sensitive detection: Capable of detecting minute concentrations of Hexanal due to the exponential modulation of current with charge on graphene.
  • Antibody coating: Utilizes a specific antibody coating on the graphene surface to accurately detect Hexanal molecules.
  • Collaborative development: Developed in collaboration with key industry and research partners from the UK and South Korea, leveraging significant patent portfolios and expertise in CVD graphene and biosensor platforms.
Technology readiness level

The graphene barristor sensor is currently at Technology Readiness Level 4. The technology has been demonstrated in a laboratory environment and is undergoing further validation in collaboration with Versarien, ABC, and KRIBB, with a project timeline of 12 months divided into focused work packages.
