This innovative herbicide combines glyphosate with biodegradable poly(ethylene oxide) and white cabbage extract to enhance its adhesion to leaves, reduce environmental leaching, and increase herbicidal effectiveness. It aims to minimize environmental impact and enhance herbicide action.

Overview

This high-performance herbicide integrates glyphosate with poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) and white cabbage (Brassica oleracea L. variety Capitata) extract to create a novel, environmentally conscious solution. By enhancing leaf surface adhesion and reducing leaching, it improves herbicidal action while minimizing environmental contamination. The use of biodegradable PEO as a coating ensures that the herbicide remains effective in varying weather conditions, especially by preventing wash-off due to rain.

Technical specifications

Key features include:

  • Biodegradable poly(ethylene oxide) coating for improved glyphosate adhesion
  • Incorporation of white cabbage extract for natural herbicidal enhancement
  • Reduced leaching into the environment, mitigating ecological impact
  • Effective in maintaining plant gas exchange

The herbicide is applied using traditional spraying methods or solution blow spraying (SBSp), and its performance is evaluated using atomic force microscopy, profilometry, and UV-VIS spectroscopy to measure glyphosate release and leaching resistance.

Technology readiness level

Currently at TRL 2, the herbicide is undergoing validation through lab-based applications and detailed characterization studies. It is in the early stages of technological development, with ongoing research focusing on optimizing the formulation and application techniques to ensure efficacy and environmental safety.
