Light-activated biodegradable crop protection

We have made two natural compounds Curcumin (Turmeric) and Hypericin water soluble, with the activation by sunlight, these new derivatives are highly active against bacteria (Gram negative and positive) as well as fungi. We have tested them against agricultural drug resistant disease field strains and have achieved impressive toxicity against the pathogens. Our compounds are biodegradable and non-toxic to humans, animals, birds & bees, furthermore they are dissolved in water and do not need toxic additives to make them biologically active. We address Supports SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-Being), SDG 6 (Clean Water), SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), and SDG 15 (Life on Land). Current crop pesticides are environmentally toxic as chemicals and also have toxic additives – which degrade soil, affect water quality and enhance drug resistance. Furthermore, due to drug resistance, higher concentrations and more frequent use of these pesticides compounds the environmental issues. Our compounds are natural non-toxic that address diseases (e.g. Fire Blight of apple trees (streptomycin usage) and copper containing pesticides (Vines)) where the EU is currently in the process or has banned their use. Our compounds are also bee / insect friendly and non-toxic to plants and animals if ingested. Our approach can be a fully chemical synthesized process - where the base compounds are already produced as food grade at (cheap); or they can be produced as a fully organic product – for organic farmers (more expensive) – addressing the ecotoxicity restrains defined in organic farming.
