Company

Soteria Formulations offers a biodegradable, microplastic-free delivery platform for herbicides, utilizing lignocellulosic biomass for extended release and targeted delivery. This technology enhances herbicide efficiency, reduces environmental impact, and facilitates regulatory approval.

Overview

Soteria Formulations introduces a revolutionary biodegradable, microplastic-free herbicide delivery platform derived from lignocellulosic biomass (LCM). This innovative technology addresses the critical issues of environmental pollution and herbicide resistance by enabling targeted delivery and extended release of herbicides at significantly lower active ingredient (AI) loads. By utilizing sustainably sourced natural products, this platform reduces the environmental impact associated with conventional herbicide formulations and offers a streamlined pathway to EPA registration.

Technical specifications
  • Biodegradable solid phase matrix: Composed of lignocellulosic biomass, this matrix supports high load capacity and tunable release rates for diverse agrochemical active ingredients.
  • Extended release technology: Provides sustained release of herbicides, enhancing field performance while using lower AI loads (≤90% of the AI label rate).
  • Validated performance: Supported by 7 years of field trials across 6 different crops, demonstrating effective pest control with various formulations, including nematicides, fungicides, and insecticides.
  • Current developments: Focus on seed coatings and granular formulations using banana harvest biomass, aiming to enhance bioactivity retention in soil.
Technology readiness level

Currently at TRL 4, the technology has been validated through laboratory and greenhouse tests, with Phase I and II plans to further develop and scale up production. Phase I will focus on the feasibility of prototype LCM formulations, while Phase II will address large-scale manufacturing, shelf-life studies, and field trials to meet regulatory requirements.
