A stimuli-responsive polymer-based optical sensing platform for rapid, sensitive DNA/RNA detection. The device uses microgel particles sandwiched between gold films to create an optical cavity, with aptamer or antibody recognition elements enabling quantification of target analytes. Proof of concept demonstrated for THC detection.
This technology is a stimuli-responsive polymer-based optical sensing platform designed to perform rapid and reliable analysis of DNA and RNA targets with high sensitivity and accuracy. The platform offers a novel approach to nucleic acid detection that is not currently available in the market. By leveraging aptamer or antibody recognition elements immobilized on a gold surface, the device can quantify targets of interest in real time. The approach has already been validated through proof-of-concept detection and quantitation of Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), demonstrating its potential for broader diagnostic and analytical applications.

Key advantages:
The sensing platform has progressed beyond initial proof of concept, with successful detection and quantitation of THC at industrially relevant levels using optimized aptamer immobilization and binding conditions. Independent verification of binding performance for various aptamers and antibodies has been completed. Current development efforts are focused on improving device sensitivity and evaluating performance in complex matrices such as cannabis extracts. Future work will extend the platform to DNA/RNA detection through capture strand immobilization, followed by validation in spiked solutions, simulated environments, and ultimately real-world samples. A manufacturing facility for commercialization is planned to support beta testing and field validation.
