An ecofriendly botanical extract formulation designed to control fungal and oomycete diseases in agriculture, reducing reliance on synthetic chemical fungicides. Validated against downy mildew and leaf spot in cucumber, with ongoing trials targeting grapevine downy mildew.

Overview

Samved Discheck is a unique organic formulation developed by Vasumitra Life Energies Pvt Ltd that combines multiple botanical extracts rich in bioactive secondary metabolites. The product is designed to manage major crop diseases such as downy mildew and leaf spot, offering an ecofriendly alternative to synthetic chemical fungicides. By targeting disease through both direct antimicrobial activity and the activation of plant defense pathways, Samved Discheck addresses growing concerns around fungicide resistance, non-target organism harm, and ecosystem disruption associated with conventional chemical controls.

The formulation is particularly relevant for high-value crops such as grapes and cucumbers, where downy mildew can cause significant yield losses. It offers growers a sustainable disease management tool that supports integrated pest management programs and reduces chemical residue concerns.

Technical specifications

Composition and mode of action:

  • Blend of multiple botanical extracts containing diverse secondary metabolites with broad-spectrum antimicrobial properties
  • Direct antifungal and anti-oomycete activity against pathogens such as Pseudoperonospora cubensis and Alternaria cucumerina
  • Elicits plant innate immunity through induced systemic resistance (ISR) and systemic acquired resistance (SAR) pathways
  • Targets multiple physiological defense responses including stomatal closure, defense gene expression, enzymatic activity, callose deposition, and phytoalexin accumulation

Validated applications:

  • Control of downy mildew in cucumber caused by Pseudoperonospora cubensis
  • Control of leaf spot disease in cucumber caused by Alternaria cucumerina
  • In vitro antifungal activity confirmed against both target pathogens
  • In-field bioefficacy and phytotoxicity assessments completed through collaboration with Mahatma Phule Krishi Vidyapeeth, National Agriculture Research Project, Pune
Technology readiness level

The product has completed initial bioefficacy and phytotoxicity validation in cucumber under field conditions, with positive results documented in collaboration with the National Agriculture Research Project at MPKV, Pune. In vitro antifungal activity has also been confirmed against target pathogens.

Future validation efforts are focused on grapevine applications and include high-resolution mass spectrometry screening of botanical secondary metabolites at the National Research Centre for Grapes in Pune, greenhouse pot studies to determine effective dosage against P. viticola, mechanistic studies on induced systemic resistance in grapevine, and field trials evaluating downy mildew control in commercial grape production. The technology is advancing from initial proof-of-concept toward broader crop-specific validation and commercial readiness.
