Single-cell RNA-Seq analysis for immune-related gene targeting in glioma

Technology
University

Leveraging single-cell RNA sequencing to identify and analyze immune-related gene expression in glioma tumor cells, facilitating the discovery of potential drug targets.

Overview

This solution uses single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-Seq) to analyze immune-related genes within glioma tumor cells. By examining genes such as PD-L1, HLA, CXCL8, CCL2, IDO, and TGF-beta, this analysis provides insights into gene expression heterogeneity among tumor cell sub-populations. This approach aims to narrow down potential drug targets for glioblastoma treatment, improving the efficiency of drug screening processes.

Technical specifications

The analysis employs Seurat, an R-based pipeline, to manage quality control, gene expression analysis, and data visualization. Key features include:

  • In-silico analysis of tumor-associated immune checkpoints and other immune-modulating genes
  • Visualization of gene expression heterogeneity among tumor sub-populations
  • Flexibility to include additional genes of interest
Technology readiness level

The project is at Technology Readiness Level 3, with the dataset already available and analysis planned for completion within two months. The focus is on data analysis and reporting, with no need for additional consumables or supplies.

About College of Idaho

College of Idaho is a private, undergraduate‑focused liberal arts college characterized by close faculty mentorship and small, agile research teams. Corporate collaborators engage through sponsored class projects, capstones, internships, and targeted contract work in campus labs, with access to on‑campus collections and field‑based study opportunities across Idaho. Located near Boise, the college links partners to a growing regional innovation economy while providing convenient access to rural and outdoor test environments. Research activity is supported by competitive federal and state funding, with awards commonly administered through the National Science Foundation for undergraduate‑serving institutions. Sponsored programs staff help structure agreements, data use, and IP terms appropriate to scope and timelines.
