Innovative process to embed live probiotics in gummy products using mild drying techniques to maintain viability. Ensures probiotics remain active during manufacturing, transport, and storage. Applications in health, food, and wellness industries.

Overview

This technology offers an innovative method to incorporate live probiotics into gummy and gelatin products, ensuring the viability of the probiotics throughout the manufacturing process and beyond. By embedding probiotics into a gummy matrix and utilizing either drum or aerosol drying techniques, the probiotics are preserved as small, concentrated particles within the final product. This approach allows the probiotics to remain active and effective, providing health benefits in the final consumer product.

Technical specifications

Key features:

  • Embeds live probiotics directly into gummy formulations, maintaining their activity.
  • Utilizes drum or aerosol drying techniques to gently preserve probiotics during production.
  • Ensures high concentration of viable probiotic cells in the final product.
  • Probiotic viability tested through colony-forming unit counts and fluorescence microscopy.

Applications:

  • Health supplements
  • Wellness products
  • Functional foods
Technology readiness level

This technology is currently at TRL 4, indicating that it has been validated in a laboratory environment. Future steps include further testing and integration into commercial production processes to ensure long-term viability and functionality of the embedded probiotics.
