Serving as the epicenter of innovation: LabCentral is a nonprofit that catalyzes life science startups by providing them with innovative space, pioneering technology, and resources accelerating their path to building life-saving technologies.

Background

Our mission is to empower the next generation of biotech and life science innovators by creating opportunities that accelerate the development of breakthrough technology and therapies. Since 2013, LabCentral has helped over 250+ companies, by providing companies with state of the art space, access to more than $7M of equipment, and a community of resources to help them.

Our non-profit status allows us to allocate resources based on needs and opportunities that result in a return on innovation in service of human health. In keeping with the MLSC’s guidance to support the entrepreneurial, early-stage activities of startup companies at our primary location (700 Main Street), we do not accept applicants that have already raised more than $10 million of capital or those that have trailing 12-month revenue of more than $3 million.

LabCentral does not offer investments itself but can provide helpful introductions to industry partners.

Facilities and Services

LabCentral provides month to month, fully functional lab space, permits, waste handling, plus all reasonably common lab equipment for bioresearch. Access to conference rooms, event space, and kitchens is also included. In addition, LabCentral hosts a large amount of programming specific to the interests of life-sciences startups.

By fostering collaboration and community among scientists, founders, venture capitalists, sponsors, neighbors, and industry leaders, we provide essential support networks for emerging biotech startups. Our diverse events create opportunities for positive collisions, where ideas converge and flourish, enabling startups to forge partnerships, access resources, and accelerate innovation.

Tools and Technologies

Our team has curated a diverse collection of shared equipment that extends beyond general laboratory tools and includes an array imaging and microscopy instruments, a Bioanalytical Lab, and an analytical chemistry lab. We take pride in equipping our residents with top-tier resources, removing barriers to innovation by ensuring access to the equipment necessary for breakthroughs.

Who we are

Since our inception in 2013, we've helped foster the growth of 278 companies, resulting in remarkable milestones like the creation of 6,339 new jobs, $18.4 billion in funding, 132 clinical trials, and 180 new patents. Over this 10-year journey, community has been more than just a goal; it's the very foundation that has lifted us up. We are so proud of our community's accomplishments and eager to share their success with the world.

Lab Central operates several facilities which includes LabCentral 700, LabCentral 238, and LabCentral 610. We also have three partnership locations, the Bayer Co.Lab, the Pagliuca Harvard Life Lab, and the Blavatnik Harvard Life Lab.
