Background

Post-shave skin problems, such as nicks, cuts, ingrown hairs, acne, razor burn, scars, and dark spots, are common yet challenging issues faced by many individuals. These issues not only cause discomfort but also have long-lasting effects on skin appearance and health. While various treatments exist, from topical ointments to creams targeting specific concerns, they often require multiple products, have delayed effectiveness, or do not provide adequate healing.

Hydrocolloid technology, traditionally used in wound care, offers potential benefits for healing by creating a protective barrier that absorbs fluids and promotes a moist environment conducive to skin repair. However, most available hydrocolloid patches are not formulated for the variety of skin issues post-shave.

This gap offers a chance to innovate by combining hydrocolloid’s healing properties with formulations designed to address the full range of post-shave issues. A fast-acting hydrocolloid patch could transform post-shave care, speeding recovery and enhancing skin health.

What we're looking for

We are looking for innovative technologies that can contribute to the development of a multi-functional line of patches with enhanced ability to address wound healing and skin irritation. We are open to active ingredients, advanced delivery systems, and new material technologies that enhance post-shave care and accelerate recovery.

Solutions of interest include:
  • Technologies for lightening scars and dark spots
  • Active ingredients that support skin barrier function and reduce inflammation
  • Fast acting material to stop bleeding quickly
  • Wound healing biomaterials (e.g., hydrocolloids, alginates)
  • Antimicrobial peptides for preventing infection and reducing inflammation
  • Hydrating and soothing polymers (e.g., hyaluronic acid, polyglutamic acid)
  • Encapsulated growth factors for accelerating tissue regeneration
  • Anti-inflammatory plant extracts for soothing razor burns
  • Silicone-based scar treatments
  • Microneedling technologies
  • Soothing and scar-reducing formulations (e.g. those containing retinoids, niacinamide, vitamin C)
  • Advanced delivery systems (e.g., liposomes, nanocapsules, electrospun nanofibers)
Our must-have requirements are:
  • Reason to believe the technology is safe for external skin application
Our nice-to-have's are:
  • Use of GRAS (Generally Recognized As Safe) ingredients or preliminary safety data available
  • Proven efficacy in similar applications
What's out of scope:
  • Highly invasive procedures or devices (e.g., injectables, surgical tools)
Acceptable technology readiness levels (TRL):
Levels 3-9
