The opportunity
I am seeking industry partners and academic partners to co-apply on federal research grants
in bioprinting, biomaterials, wound care, controlled drug delivery, and
wearable biosensors. Partnership can range from a letter of support on
a proposal in preparation through to a named co-applicant role with
defined scope and budget.
What I bring
- An NSF STTR Phase I funded platform at TRL 5. Our 3D-printed
gelatin-alginate-bioactive glass dressing was evaluated in a porcine
burn model against a marketed active comparator, showing faster
closure, reduced scarring, and comparable safety.
- Extrusion bioprinting of hydrogels, with printed lattice architecture
used to set stiffness, porosity, and release rate independently of
formulation.
- Stimuli-responsive transdermal drug delivery, and hydrogel-based
biosensing including wearable sweat sensing.
- Characterization in house: swelling and transport modeling, viscoelasric materials mechanical and rheological behavior, moisture analysis, ion partitioning, in vitro testing, animal studies (rodent), and histology.
- Track record as PI on federal awards, as an NSF SBIR/STTR reviewer and panelist, and as Vice-Chair of the Wound Healing Society Research Funding and Promotions Committee.
What I am looking for in a partner
- Academic collaboration as PI, co-PI, consultant
- A letter of support for a proposal in preparation
- An application problem or performance specification that gives the
research a real target
- Materials, compounds, or devices for us to test and formulate around
- Access to models, facilities, or clinical sites we do not have
- Cost share or matching contribution
- A small business partner for SBIR/STTR, with my laboratory as the research institution
Intellectual property and publication terms are agreed in writing before any proposal goes in.
Programs and timeline
Active and recurring targets include NIH, NSF, DoD CDMRP, ARPA-H, etc. plus SBIR and STTR partnerships.
- A letter of support needs roughly two to three weeks
- A named co-applicant role with defined scope needs eight to twelve
weeks before the deadline
About Missouri University of Science & Technology
Missouri University of Science and Technology is a public, STEM-focused Carnegie R1 research university in Rolla with an applied-research culture and extensive laboratories and testbeds. Industry engages on campus through prototype-scale development at the Missouri Protoplex, the on-campus nuclear research reactor, and the long-standing Experimental Mine. Innovation Park, the campus research park, houses the Technology Development Center incubator and co-locates companies with faculty and students; a formal co-op program builds steady talent pipelines. Sponsored programs are backed by competitive federal funding, including NSF, DOE, DoD, and NASA. The Office of Technology Transfer and Economic Development supports IP, licensing, an SBDC, and startup formation.
