Innovative research on isolating and identifying anti-allergic compounds from Carissa spinarum, Toddalia asitica, and Physalis minima using advanced techniques like HPLC-MS and NMR-MS for potential therapeutic applications.

Overview

This research focuses on isolating and elucidating the structure of anti-allergic compounds found in certain medicinal herbs, specifically Carissa spinarum, Toddalia asitica, and Physalis minima. By leveraging advanced techniques such as High-Performance Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (HPLC-MS) and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance-Mass Spectrometry (NMR-MS), this project aims to expand the chemical and pharmacological understanding of these herbs. The ultimate goal is to standardize these herbs for potential therapeutic use, offering new solutions in the treatment of allergies.

Technical specifications
  • Isolation and Purification: Utilizes HPLC-MS for precise separation of phytochemicals.
  • Structure Elucidation: Involves NMR-MS to determine chemical structures and confirm anti-allergic properties.
  • Biological Activity Evaluation: Conducts comprehensive biological activity and toxicity assessments to ensure safety and efficacy.
  • Standardization and Cultivation: Focuses on the standardization of herbs and promotes sustainable cultivation practices.
Technology readiness level

This project is currently at Technology Readiness Level 3, indicating that active research and development are ongoing, with initial laboratory testing of the isolated compounds underway.
