Transforming lactose, an underutilized dairy byproduct, into high-value microbial oil using oleaginous microorganisms. This sustainable process offers an animal-free alternative to conventional fats, catering to the plant-based food industry.
Tiden Lipid Biotech Solutions Inc. presents an innovative bioprocess to convert lactose, a commonly discarded dairy byproduct, into microbial oils rich in unsaturated fatty acids. Utilizing oleaginous microorganisms such as specialized yeast strains, this process offers a sustainable and animal-free alternative to traditional fats, aligning with the increasing demand for plant-based foods. By optimizing lactose utilization and lipid accumulation, this approach not only valorizes waste but also contributes to the development of functional food lipids.
Currently at TRL 4, this project involves lab-scale fermentations to optimize microbial strains and process parameters. Future stages include pilot-scale trials and application testing to validate scalability and food suitability, with a pathway towards commercial readiness.
