Terra Oleo is a Singapore-based biotech using precision fermentation to convert agro-industrial waste into sustainable alternatives to palm oil derivatives, oleochemicals, and cocoa butter. Products serve personal care, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and food industries.
Conventional fats and oils production is resource-intensive and under growing regulatory pressure. Terra Oleo's process uses 90% less land, 86% fewer GHG emissions, and 88% less water versus conventional vegetable oils. It is EUDR-compliant, deforestation-free, and produces ingredients with low-to-zero metallic and carcinogenic impurities — with tight compositional control that agricultural supply chains cannot match. Proprietary engineered yeast strains metabolize low-cost waste feedstocks (crude glycerol, starch wastewater, glycerin pitch) through a scalable bioprocess, producing application-ready lipids without energy-intensive refining. The platform is tunable across cocoa butter equivalents (53–70% saturated fat), high-purity oleate oil (82–90% oleic acid), and secreted fatty alcohols (C12–C18). CBE prototypes match raw cocoa butter in appearance and melt behavior. Currently product testing with 8 global industry leaders across specialty fats, food, and personal care, with 16 potential customers in the pipeline. Scaling from pilot (15kL) to demo scale (40–130 MT/year) by 2028, and full commercial production (540–2,700 MT/year) by 2029 via a manufacturing JV.
