Background
Bayer is seeking solutions in the area of optimizing pregnancy outcomes for their brands like Elevit. Elevit serves parents and parents-to-be with multivitamins and other health solutions. We believe in the possibility of a world where every baby is born healthy and stays healthy.
In order to have the best chance of ensuring this, priming the mother’s body for conception and optimizing the fetus environment during pregnancy and beyond are our key targets. With the demographic and behavioral shifts of couples delaying pregnancy to later, there is an increasing need to support this population with meaningful offerings to optimize the reproductive environment prior to conception.
These include: 1) supporting essential early reproductive processes (eg. counteracting mitochondrial dysfunction which has been implicated in ovarian health), 2) supporting optimum follicular fluid milieu, which has been shown to impact oocyte quality with likely impact on conception and development, and 3) optimising pre and post-conception maternal glycaemia/metabolic health to promote healthy offspring growth and body composition.
What we're looking for
We are looking for novel nutritional ingredients and/or experts in the field of prenatal nutrition.
Solutions of interest include:
Identification of novel (i.e. to the nutritional prenatal space) nutritional ingredients with novel and/or promising data/product solutions/technologies. These may include: 1) known nutritional ingredients with novel/promising data (Vitamins, Minerals, other nutrients); 2) Novel natural extracts; 3) Pro-Pre-Post-Biotics or other nature derived compounds.
Connecting with experts: Seeking to connect with KOLs (“key opinion leaders”) in the area to help understand science in optimizing pregnancy and pregnancy outcomes, specifically also with access to existing pregnancy cohorts and relevant data sets.
Our must-have requirements are:
Creative solutions offering something novel (re-imagining the space) in the field will be prioritized
Proposed solutions should be mainly for oral application
For ingredients: safe to take for pregnant and breastfeeding women (based on currently available data)
Our nice-to-have's are:

Who we are
At Bayer, our mission is to use science to improve everyday health for everyone. We can’t do it alone, so we actively search for and bring in talented, driven partners from around the consumer health industry. With our size and scale, we can help bring exciting new tools developed by others to market faster, and increase people’s access to them.
Our commitment to partnerships means simply bringing better products to those who need them faster. We look for partners who have new ideas, capabilities, insights and strengths that we might not have. For our partners, this commitment can mean access to much-needed investment or technical capacity. But most importantly, it means knowing they are working with a science-led and trusted global company that can help them grow and reach more people.
I have a novel non-invasive technology which can assess neonatal gene expression in the gut over time. We are using this in premature and full term infants in funded NIH studies. Would you be interested in partnering with us? Do you pay indirect costs?

Q.
Hi, our tech detects healthy food, links it to disease prevention via machine learning. Our software & camera retrofit on any kitchen surface. Is it of interest in this proposal?
Gaining some weight during pregnancy is normal, but obesity is a risk factor. Could adding a compound that (among other benefits) reduces BW in overweight women, but has no effect on women with a BMI<25 be of interest?

For this opportunity, would you be interested in nutritional supplements tested in animal models like cows, pigs, or mice that could be translated to humans?
