The laboratory processes of an integrated iron and steel company encompasses activities such as sampling, sample preparation and testing. These tasks are crucial for ensuring the quality and consistency of materials used in production at Tata Steel. However, some procedures pose significant challenges to maintaining a safe and comfortable work environment.
The primary challenges include high noise levels (>80 dB), vibration, and fugitive emissions (dust and acid fumes). Certain laboratory equipment, such as the Micum drum and the auto hammering machine, generate high levels of noise (90-100 dB) and vibration, making the working environment uncomfortable and potentially harmful for employees. Mechanized sampling operations and pulverizing processes of ferroalloys release dust into the air, posing health risks if inhaled and affecting the overall air quality in the lab. Additionally, some analyses, such as the determination of total ammonia and naphthalene in rich and lean oils, involve heating samples to high temperatures, resulting in the emission of hazardous fumes.
This RFP aims to enhance the laboratory environment at Tata Steel by sourcing innovative solutions to reduce noise levels and contain fugitive emissions, ensuring safer and more comfortable working conditions. We are seeking proposals for equipment and strategies aimed at improving occupational health and safety standards in laboratory settings.
We are looking to collaborate with global experts to explore solutions to reduce noise levels (<60 dB) and contain fugitive emissions for easier collection and removal.
