Background

Food allergens are proteins naturally present in several common food ingredients such as peanuts, soy, and milk. Allergic individuals can suffer inflammatory responses when exposed to food allergens, which may result in moderate to severe reactions, including death. To mitigate these risks, food manufacturers employ diagnostic tests to detect trace amounts of unintended food allergen contamination in food products and food manufacturing facilities. However, increasingly complex food formulations and processing methods have challenged the reliability of rapid assays, such as immunoassays, to consistently detect food allergens. This has created a growing need for highly sensitive antibodies that perform reliably across diverse food matrices to support advanced diagnostic testing.

What we're looking for

We are looking for highly sensitive antibodies targeting milk and soy allergens for use in food allergen diagnostic applications. We are open to purchasing or licensing antibodies from commercial, academic, and governmental groups that have developed or are developing allergen-specific antibodies for diagnostic applications.

Solutions of interest include:
  • Antibodies for milk allergens
  • Antibodies for soy allergens
  • Alternative antibody-based binding reagents (e.g., nanobodies, recombinant antibody fragments)
Our must-have requirements are:
  • Demonstrated function or compelling rationale for use in ELISA and/or lateral flow applications
  • Milk allergen antibodies must target casein and/or whey proteins
  • Soy allergen antibodies must target soy proteins relevant to diagnostic testing
  • Soy allergen antibodies must not cross-react with other legumes (especially peanut and pea proteins), grains, or cow’s milk
Our nice-to-have's are:
  • Demonstrated ability to function in complex food matrices, both processed and unprocessed
What's out of scope:
  • Non-antibody-based binding reagents such as aptamers, molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs), affibodies, or other synthetic scaffolds
Acceptable technology readiness levels (TRL):
Levels 3-6
What we can offer you
Eligible partnership models:
Supply/purchaseLicensing
Benefits:
Compensation
We will provide up to $2000 to transfer 5-10 mg of purified antibody. The feasibility testing will be conducted by the requestor (funding party). Successful projects will lead to further commercial agreement discussions.
Expertise
We have hundreds of years of combined expertise in this space, including experts in food safety, diagnostic assays, protein chemistry, protein purification and antibody development.
Data
If a partnership or commercial agreement is established, the collaboration could include discussion of historical data to help inform future work within the scope of this project.
Facilities and Services
We have internal analytical laboratories that can be leveraged for this work. Partners can send antibodies for purification and characterization. Partners can also utilize our expertise in design and preparation of immunogens and capture reagents.
