Varigen Biosciences introduces a multiplex LAMP (mLAMP) method for rapid, sensitive detection of viable pathogens in seeds. This scalable technique combines viability dyes and mLAMP to deliver results in 30 minutes, suitable for routine lab workflows.

Overview

Varigen Biosciences has developed an advanced diagnostic method using multiplex LAMP (mLAMP) technology to evaluate seed health rapidly and effectively. This innovative solution allows for the detection of up to four targets, including viable pathogens, within a single reaction well. By leveraging fluorophore/quencher-labeled primers, the mLAMP assay provides real-time, sequence-specific detection without the need for additional primers or probes. This method is designed for rapid, point-of-care molecular diagnostics, offering results in just 30 minutes.

Technical specifications
  • Multiplex capability: Detects up to three pathogens and one internal control in a single well.
  • Reaction speed: Delivers sensitive and accurate results in under 30 minutes.
  • Scalability: Supports 96- or 384-well formats, making it ideal for routine laboratory workflows.
  • Cost-effective: Estimated reagent cost of $3–$10 per sample, depending on scale.
  • Compatibility: Can be performed on any standard real-time thermocycler.
  • Viability detection: Incorporates viability dyes PMA or EMA to ensure detection of only viable pathogens.
Technology readiness level

The multiplex LAMP technology has reached Technology Readiness Level 4, indicating that it has been validated in a lab environment with plans for further validation through sponsor-led studies using lyophilized test kits and sample preparation methods.
